Member Meeting March 2019
Aviation Historian Roy Mize presents a story of Aerial Treason
Our monthly Member Meetings typically include updates on important Museum news, a raffle, video presentations, a chance to visit with other Museum members, snacks, and a presentation by a featured speaker. Speakers may include military Veterans, historians, civic leaders, and other people with interesting stories to tell of their historical research or their aviation or military experiences.
March 20, 2019 Guest Speaker: Aviation Historian Roy Mize on Aerial Treason
Join us as early aviation historian Roy Mize spins a tale of “Aerial Treason,” a story of spies, Sunset Magazine, the silver screen, and pioneer San Jose aviator Bob Fowler’s 1914 “dance” with the U. S. Attorney General. An abbreviated version of the story will be published later this year in Smithsonian Air & Space Magazine.
About Roy Mize
Roy Mize is an early aviation historian with a passion about forgotten stories of the early days of flying. In 1956 he enlisted in the Army and spent three years as a student and then an instructor at the Army Air Defense School in Fort Bliss, Texas, working with computer control systems for ground-to-air missiles. After the Army he moved to what later became Silicon Valley and over the next 40 years he worked at five advanced telecommunications research companies. He holds three university degrees in business. However, his entire experience has been in the care and feeding of research and development scientists and engineers for aerospace, satellite communications, high energy lasers, and advanced software development projects. Roy has taught continuing education classes for several universities, including UC Santa Cruz, UCLA and Sonoma State University, and adult education classes for a local school district. He also developed and taught one of the first online Web search classes for UC Santa Cruz in 1996/97 and has guest-lectured on planning and scheduling concepts and on his avocation, early aviation history.
Air Show Meeting at 6:00 immediately before the Member Meeting
The 2019 Wings Over Wine Country Air Show is being planned!
Each month we have an open Air Show meeting, just before the monthly Member Meeting. We talk about performers, volunteers, staffing, vendors, attractions, and all the other important things that go into an event like this.
These meetings are your chance to find out what’s happening, get a look at the plans, and contribute your own opinions and ideas. We encourage you to attend.
The Air Show meetings take place at 6:00 p.m. and run through about 6:45 p.m., and are in the same room as the Member Meetings. There will be no Air Show meeting in May.
