The
aircraft appears to have been flown regularly up through 1991.
From 1991 through 1998, there are no log entries. The
previous owner, Cleon Watts, purchased the aircraft in 1996
and took on the task of restoring the aircraft. All new
fabric, interior, paint, updated panel, and lots of fine
detail work created the version of 54Z that is seen today.
The engine, a Lycoming
O-320-B2B, has not been overhauled since 1967 when it was
remanufactured at the factory. During the most recent
restoration, the engine was opened up and inspected. The
cylinders were honed and new rings installed. Total time
on the engine since the reman is around 900 hours. The
last annual showed good compression in all cylinders and
performance has been great.
